Locals and returning visitors, including yours truly, will tell you that São Jacinto is the secret little capital of fresh seafood cuisine in the Aveiro region, and  é a pura verdade - if you don't believe me, come verify for yourself. That said, há muitos peixes no mar, and that's why you don't want to miss Chefs on Fire when visiting Aveiro in July.

Chefs on Fire returns to Aveiro with a pop-up format from July 19 to 21. Twelve chefs of national and international renown will prepare special dishes using fire, wood, and smoke. The culinary experience will be enhanced by performances from six Portuguese artists. This award-winning event is organized by LOHAD, a Portugal-based travel and entertainment company, and supported by the Aveiro City Council.

The event will take place at the city's green and lush Parque Infante Dom Pedro, and its focus will be on local raw materials from the Ria de Aveiro and the sea, as well as the traditional fish salting method known as "salgado aveirense."

This year, these chefs promise to bedazzle your palates:

  • Diogo Formiga: Chef at Encanto in Lisbon, Michelin-starred
  • Mónica Gomes: Chef from Olaias in Figueira da Foz, Bib Gourmand.
  • Angélica Salvador: Chef from IN Diferente in Porto, Bib Gourmand
  • Duarte Eira: Chef at Salpoente in Aveiro.
  • David Jesus: Chef from Seiva in Leça da Palmeira
  • Ana Leão: Chef currently at Babel in Porto

Sustainability is a key commitment of Chefs on Fire. The event will implement a zero-plastic policy and replant the firewood consumed.

Tickets to this unique celebration of Portuguese gastronomy and culture at Parque Infante Dom Pedro in Aveiro, July 19-21, are going fast. Get yours here.
