For the 21st consecutive year, Aveiro's own São Jacinto Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag, a distinction that symbolizes environmental health, safety, and urban quality. The recognition for 2026 honors the joint efforts of the Aveiro Municipal Council (CMA), our local São Jacinto community, and partner entities in the management of the Praia de São Jacinto, Aveiro's one and only "house beach".
It also recognizes the contribution of residents and visitors who help keep the beach clean and safe for future generations.
Yes, you have to take the electric ferry from Forte da Barra to São Jacinto to enjoy this Aveiro beach. But where else in the neighborhood - or in the whole of Portugal, for that matter - do you get to enjoy a silent (and sustainable!) mini cruise for €3,75 with your beach day? Or a beach week?
But there's more. In addition to the Blue Flag, São Jacinto Beach received the Accessible Beach flag this year. This recognition rewards compliance with accessibility standards in public bathing areas.
Add to that the Golden Quality 2026 flag, awarded by nature conservation NGO Quercus to beaches in Portugal with proven top-notch water quality, and, drum roll... - we present to you:
The most-awarded ocean beach in the Aveiro region: São Jacinto
